A $100 million state program, aimed at helping Minnesotans with housing issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, is now accepting applications.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz recently announced the official launch of the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program, which is funded through federal dollars.
Walz says the program will prevent eviction, homelessness and help maintain housing stability for residents who are struggling financially during the pandemic.
During a recent press conference with the governor, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan said the housing crisis was around before COVID-19 hit and it’s an issue that continues to disproportionately affect indigenous people and people of color.
“People of color are more likely to be homeless, etc .. housing justice is racial justice. And I’m pleased we are acting today to do what we can to help people stay in their homes.” said Flanagan.
Local administrators are now working with eligible households to help them maintain stable housing.
